India launched BrahMos missile strikes on key Pakistani airbases before Pakistan could execute its planned retaliation.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, speaking at an event in Azerbaijan, acknowledged that his country’s armed forces were caught unawares during the early morning hours of May 10.
Sharif stated that Pakistan had planned to strike India after the Fajr prayers. However, before dawn, India’s long-range supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles targeted multiple strategic locations, including the Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi. This strike was in response to Pakistan’s drone and missile attacks on civilian areas along the western border.
Among the military bases hit were Rafiqui, Murid, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian, with additional damage reported at Skardu, Bholari, Jacobabad, and Sargodha air bases. The incident has intensified geopolitical tensions in the region, with international observers closely monitoring developments.
