India Retaliates After Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Along LoC Amid Rising Post-Pahalgam Tensions

Amid escalating tensions following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Army delivered a swift and proportionate response to fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) on the night of April 29–30.

According to an official Army statement, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked small-arms fire targeting Indian positions in the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu & Kashmir. The Indian troops responded firmly, ensuring the situation was brought under control.

These latest provocations come just days after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives and left several injured. The attack, considered one of the deadliest in recent years, has triggered widespread anger across India, with growing calls for decisive retaliation.

In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with top defence officials, where he reiterated that the armed forces have “complete operational freedom” to determine the nature and timing of India’s response.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has claimed—without evidence—that India may be planning military action within 24–36 hours. Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused India of fabricating allegations regarding Islamabad’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack, a claim India has strongly refuted.

India has already begun ramping up pressure on Pakistan through diplomatic and strategic channels, including pausing the Indus Waters Treaty—a key water-sharing agreement between the two nations.

Earlier on Tuesday, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a high-level security meeting with the chiefs of three paramilitary forces and senior officials from two intelligence agencies to assess the national security situation.

The situation along the border remains tense as India continues to evaluate its next steps in response to the terror strike and ongoing ceasefire violations.
