India has categorically denied social media claims suggesting that the United States used Indian airspace to carry out its recent airstrikes on Iran.
The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit dismissed the allegations as “fake”, confirming that no Indian airspace was involved in Operation #MidnightHammer, the name given to the U.S. military mission.
The clarification comes in response to viral posts circulating on social media platforms following the U.S. bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday. The attack, which was ordered by President Donald Trump, has heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the U.S. warning of further strikes if Iran retaliates.
“Several social media accounts have claimed that Indian Airspace was used by the United States to launch aircraft against Iran during Operation #MidnightHammer. This claim is FAKE,” PIB Fact Check posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The statement further affirmed:
“Indian Airspace was NOT used by the United States during Operation #MidnightHammer.”
The clarification was backed by U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Dan Caine, who reportedly detailed the operational flight routes used by American aircraft during a press briefing, confirming that India’s airspace was not part of the mission plan.
This official response aims to dispel misinformation amid rising global anxiety over the unfolding Iran-Israel conflict and the U.S.’s deepening involvement.
