The Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr. The Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, called on the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 16, 2025, marking the conclusion of his week-long State Visit to India.
During his visit from September 9 to 16, Prime Minister Ramgoolam toured key cultural and economic hubs including Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. Welcoming the Mauritian delegation, President Murmu emphasized that Mauritius holds a special place in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy, the ‘MAHASAGAR Vision’, and its broader commitment to the Global South.
The President expressed satisfaction over the steady growth in bilateral cooperation, which has recently been elevated to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’. She highlighted India’s support for Mauritius’s developmental priorities through a new Special Economic Package, which includes infrastructure projects such as hospitals, roads, port development, defence procurement, and joint maritime surveillance.
President Murmu also noted the expansion of collaboration into emerging sectors like digital technology and space exploration. Both leaders reaffirmed the unique bond between India and Mauritius, rooted in shared history, language, and cultural values.
The meeting concluded with optimism about the future of India-Mauritius relations, bolstered by Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s leadership and vision.
