The mortal remains of Rifleman Sunil Kumar, who lost his life in the line of duty during cross-border shelling in the RS Pura sector, were brought to his residence in Trewa village, Jammu, today.

A sombre atmosphere enveloped the village as family, friends, and fellow soldiers gathered to bid farewell to the braveheart.

Rifleman Kumar, a dedicated member of the J&K Light Infantry, made the ultimate sacrifice while serving at the forward post. Reports indicate that heavy shelling from across the border claimed his life, marking yet another tragic loss for the Indian armed forces.

As his body arrived at his hometown, an outpouring of grief and patriotic fervour was evident. The village resonated with cries of “Shaheed Sunil Kumar Amar Rahe” as people paid their last respects. A military contingent escorted the funeral procession, ensuring full honours were accorded to the fallen hero.

Officials from the army and local administration joined the mourning family, assuring support and expressing gratitude for the soldier’s unwavering commitment to duty. The funeral, conducted with military honours, saw thousands in attendance, reflecting the nation’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by its protectors.

Leaders and citizens alike have expressed their condolences, with calls for strengthened defence measures and continued remembrance of those who put their lives on the line. Rifleman Sunil Kumar’s sacrifice remains a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by soldiers protecting India’s borders.
