India captain Shubman Gill’s historic Edgbaston high joins Gabba, Cape Town folklore

In a performance dripping with dominance, India stormed into Edgbaston and left with history rewritten. Trailing 0-1 in the series, the Men in Blue bounced back with a colossal 336-run win, flattening England and silencing the “Bazball” brigade in their own backyard.

At the heart of India’s triumph stood Shubman Gill, the young captain scripting his own legend. Gill produced a batting masterclass with scores of 269 and 161, becoming the first Indian Test captain to cross 400 runs in a match. His poise, precision, and power shredded the English attack and set India on course for a memorable victory.

While Gill laid the foundation, it was the pacers who drove the final nails. Mohammed Siraj unleashed a six-wicket blitz in the first innings, rattling England early. In the second, with England chasing a record 608, Akash Deep responded with fire, grabbing 6 wickets of his own to destroy the hosts’ resistance.

Former opener Aakash Chopra, reflecting on India’s conquest, couldn’t contain his praise. “This is a win for the ages. From Cape Town to Perth, from the Gabba to now Birmingham, India is conquering fortresses one after another. And this time, we made Bazball lick dust. This team has outplayed England in every department,” he said.

This win marks India’s first-ever Test victory at Edgbaston, a venue long considered a fortress for England. More importantly, it sends a strong message: India’s red-ball revolution is global, relentless, and rewriting cricket history one venue at a time.

Adding to the excitement, skipper Shubman Gill confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah, India’s strike bowler, will return for the upcoming Lord’s Test, where India aims to take a 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

England, despite showing flashes of their aggressive “Bazball” tactics, were outclassed from start to finish. The Edgbaston pitch may have been familiar, but the Indian team made it feel like foreign soil for the hosts.

As India looks to march into Lord’s, confidence is sky-high. The message is clear—this team doesn’t just compete overseas, it conquers.
