The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting January 11, 2026.
Shubman Gill will lead the side, while Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain, subject to fitness clearance.
Gill’s appointment marks his return as captain, with senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also included in the squad. Iyer, who had been sidelined due to a spleen injury sustained during India’s tour of Australia last October, has received conditional clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence and is set to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before the ODI series. His inclusion means Ruturaj Gaikwad misses out.
Key Inclusions and Omissions
- Mohammed Siraj returns after being rested for the South Africa series.
- Mohammed Shami continues to remain unavailable.
- Rishabh Pant retains his place despite speculation that Ishan Kishan might be preferred. Kishan, however, has already been recalled for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup.
