The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across Odisha for the next five days.
The regional weather office predicted light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at one or two places in several districts.
On Day 1, valid till April 5 morning, thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal. Gusty winds of 30–40 kmph may occur in other districts, while hot and humid conditions will prevail in coastal areas such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.
On Day 2, thunderstorms with lightning and winds up to 50 kmph may occur in Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada, as well as in Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and other western districts.
On Day 3, similar conditions are expected in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, and Cuttack. Winds of 30–40 kmph may affect Puri, Khurda, Angul, and Dhenkanal.
On Day 4, thunderstorms with lightning and winds up to 50 kmph may hit coastal and southern districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Ganjam, and Koraput.
On Day 5, the warning continues for northern and coastal districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Cuttack.
The IMD advised residents to stay alert and avoid open areas during lightning activity.
