The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket (USAC) with immediate effect, citing repeated breaches of member obligations under the ICC Constitution.
The decision was made following a year-long review and stakeholder engagement, culminating in the ICC Board’s meeting this week.
Key reasons for the suspension include USAC’s failure to establish a functional governance structure, lack of progress toward recognition by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and actions that have damaged the sport’s reputation both domestically and globally. The move comes shortly after USAC terminated its 50-year commercial agreement with American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), a partnership once considered pivotal for cricket’s growth in the U.S..
Despite the suspension, the ICC has confirmed that USA’s national teams will retain their right to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The ICC will temporarily oversee team management to ensure continuity and support for players.
To regain membership, USAC must meet conditions set by the ICC Normalisation Committee, including governance reforms and operational improvements. The committee will monitor progress and provide consultative support during the transition.
