Bhubaneswar: Senior IAS officer Usha Padhee alerted citizens on Sunday that some unidentified fraudster allegedly attempted to cheat people and extort money by using her name.
The bureaucrat, through her X handle, posted about a cyber fraud incident where someone was soliciting money from her contacts on WhatsApp using her identity.
IAS Padhee also shared a screenshot of the fraudulent message, in which the scammer requested Rs 50,000 and provided a bank account number for the transfer, promising to repay the amount later. She mentioned that she has reported the matter to the relevant authorities and urged the public to remain vigilant to avoid falling prey to such cyber scams.
Tagging the official handle of the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, Padhee wrote, “It has been brought to my attention that some imposter is sending messages to many known contacts and asking money. I have already taken steps to report to concerned authorities. May please be cautious and don’t get in to the trap such cyber fraudsters.”
