Somesh Satpathy Seeks Anticipatory Bail

Popular Odia singer Somesh Satpathy has moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail as police continue investigating the death of playback singer Humane Sagar.

The petition follows a complaint filed by Sephali Suna, mother of the late singer, at the Markat Nagar police station in Cuttack. She alleged foul play in her son’s demise and named several individuals, including Sagar’s estranged wife, Shreya Mishra, aides Subhendu Mishra, singer Arpita Choudhury and her family, Somesh Satpathy, and Md Abid (Bablu). According to her complaint, she suspected conspiracy, financial motives, negligence, or abetment.

Furthermore, Suna demanded a thorough probe. She called for examination of CCTV footage, forensic analysis of digital devices, financial records, and medical history spanning four years.

Meanwhile, Humane Sagar, celebrated for soulful tracks such as the title song of Ishq Tu Hi Tu and numerous Ollywood hits, died on November 17, 2025, at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The 34‑year‑old singer succumbed to multi‑organ dysfunction syndrome after battling pneumonia, acute liver failure, and other complications. He had been hospitalised since October 14.

Consequently, his death shocked Odisha’s music industry. Tributes poured in from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, former CM Naveen Patnaik, and fans across the state.

Satpathy, a prominent figure in the Odia music scene, now faces scrutiny as one of the individuals named in the complaint. His anticipatory bail plea highlights growing attention on the case and raises questions about possible negligence or deeper involvement.

At present, police have not registered an FIR based on the complaint. However, the investigation remains in its early stages, and authorities are expected to respond to the bail application soon.
