Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested another associate of Irani Patra and her husband Nishikant. The couple used to run a honey trap and blackmailing gang in the state capital, the police said.
The arrested person has been identified as Debananda Jena (29) of Naragada village under Tamando police station limits in Khurda. He was arrested following a complaint lodged by Prasanta Pattanaik of Bolagarh in Case No. 237/2023.
According to police, the accused Debananda Jena, is the friend of Irani Patra’s husband Nishikant. The couple along with her associates have been accused of allegedly duping many people of crores of rupees by honey trapping and blackmailing them.
Tamando Police Station IIC Subhrakant Jena informed that the gang used to ask the victims to bring biryani and liquor and after robbing them, they used to party at a rented house.
The Commissionerate Police has sought a five-day remand of Irani Patra’s husband to ascertain more details.
As per police, the gang used to befriend the victims on social media and after looting them they used to delete the chats.
So far, four cases have been registered and further investigation in connection with the cases is underway, Jena further said adding, that the seized phones will be sent for examination.
Notably, police arrested lady blackmailer Irani Patra, her husband Bapi alias Nishikanta Patra, and her associates –Ganesh alias Manoranjan Pradhan and Girija alias Saktikant Harichandan on the complaint filed by a doctor on September 11.
