A Home Guard recruitment candidate in Deogarh died after falling ill during a physical test at the Reserve Police Ground.

Saheb Dehuri, a 21-year-old candidate from Budido village under Reamal police station in Deogarh district, fell ill during the physical endurance test. He was promptly transported to the District Headquarters Hospital via ambulance but, sadly, passed away during treatment on Thursday morning.

The grieving family has alleged medical negligence as the cause of death, leading to tensions and agitation at the hospital. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

District officials, including Additional District Magistrate Rebeca Bilung, Sub-Collector Parikshit Sahu, Chief District Medical Officer Bishwamohan Mishra, and police officer Sabyasachi Satpathy, visited the hospital to calm the situation and offer assistance to the family. The body was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. Meanwhile, family members demanded action against the attending medical staff, which escalated into demands for suspension and accountability.

In response, the Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed profound sorrow and extended his condolences to the grieving family. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the CM announced compassionate financial aid of Rs 4 lakh from the CM Relief Fund to support the deceased’s closest kin.
