In a high-intensity operation conducted in the insurgency-hit Sukma district of Bastar division, security forces neutralised two Maoists, including a Local Organisation Squad (LOS) Commander, on Wednesday.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of cadres from the banned CPI Maoist outfit, personnel from Kukanar Police Station and the Sukma District Reserve Force launched a combing operation in the Pusgunna region. As gunfire erupted during the search, the forces engaged in fierce exchanges with the militants, ultimately recovering two bodies from the site.
One of the deceased, identified as Baman, was a notorious commander carrying a ₹5 lakh bounty. The identity of the female cadre remains unconfirmed. Security personnel seized an INSAS rifle, a 12-bore rifle, and a cache of explosives from the encounter site.
With additional reinforcements deployed, combing operations continue in the dense forest terrain to track and apprehend other insurgents who may have fled the scene. Authorities are expected to release further updates as the operation progresses.
