A major controversy has erupted within the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) over alleged financial misconduct in the procurement of gym equipment worth Rs 5 crores.

The City Engineer and the former CMC Commissioner are under scrutiny for bypassing government procurement norms to issue the work order.

Opposition corporators have raised concerns about the violation of mandated procedures, lack of transparency, and the absence of a formal tendering process. Reports suggest the equipment remains unused, triggering suspicions of misappropriation of public funds. While the current CMC Commissioner and Mayor have assured strict action, opposition leaders demand a high-level inquiry into the scandal.

As investigations unfold, the role of key officials, including the former commissioner who is now the District Collector, remains questionable. Citizens await accountability and clarity on this alleged financial fraud.
