Gurinderveer Singh stunned the athletics world by winning gold in the 100‑meter freestyle race at the Federation Cup 2026 in Ranchi.
He finished in 10.09 seconds, setting a new national record and becoming the fastest Indian sprinter in history.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann congratulated Gurinderveer on social media, calling him “our brave son” and praising his achievement as a proud moment for Punjab and India. Mann highlighted that Gurinderveer broke the national record twice in two days, cementing his place among India’s top athletes.
The Federation Cup witnessed fierce competition between Gurinderveer and Animesh Kujur. On Friday, Gurinderveer broke Animesh’s record with 10.17 seconds in the first heat. Minutes later, Animesh reclaimed the record with 10.15 seconds. The rivalry set the stage for a dramatic final.
On Saturday, Gurinderveer delivered a historic performance, clocking 10.09 seconds. Animesh finished second at 10.20 seconds, while Pranav Pramod secured third place with 10.29 seconds. Gurinderveer’s victory not only gave him the gold medal but also qualified him for the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
