Following a significant global IT outage, Google’s services are currently unavailable, according to user reports. Users are experiencing issues accessing search, email, and calendar functions. Downdetector, a site that monitors service outages, noted a spike in complaints around 7 pm.
The cause of the disruption is still unclear, but it has impacted services including Google Maps, Calendar, Cloud, Drive, Meet, and Hangouts.
This incident occurred just weeks after a software update from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike caused system malfunctions for Microsoft customers, affecting numerous airlines.
Globally, including in India, users reported a ‘blue screen of death’ error upon starting their devices.
The disruption was due to a defective update from CrowdStrike, which provides endpoint security for various companies worldwide, including Microsoft. Consequently, Microsoft’s array of services, such as Azure, Outlook, and Teams, experienced disruptions throughout the day.
Industries relying on CrowdStrike’s services for device security encountered this outage, with the banking and airline sectors being the most affected. Numerous airlines worldwide had to ground their planes and requested passengers to alter their travel arrangements.
