New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move to enhance educational accessibility, tech giant Google has announced a partnership with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This collaboration aims to launch YouTube channels in 29 Indian languages, including Indian Sign Language, catering to students from grades 1 to 12.
The initiative is set to roll out over the coming months, providing educational content aligned with the NCERT curriculum. These channels will offer engaging and accessible formats, empowering students, parents, and teachers across India. Jonathan Katzman, Director of Product Management at YouTube Learning, emphasized the importance of accessible education in unlocking the nation’s potential.
In addition to this partnership, Google has also collaborated with the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) to offer credentialed courses via YouTube. NPTEL now provides 50 courses on diverse subjects, from pure sciences to sports psychology2. These courses are designed to be accessible to anyone outside the IIT system, with certification available through the NPTEL-SWAYAM portal.
Google’s innovative AI tools will further enhance the learning experience. Features like “Key Concepts” use AI to identify and define concepts covered in videos, aiding comprehension across subjects such as biology, physics, and chemistry. The introduction of quizzes and the YouTube Player for Education will also help learners apply their knowledge effectively.
This partnership marks a significant step towards making quality education more accessible and inclusive, leveraging technology to bridge educational gaps across the country.
