Two men sustained severe injuries in a violent group assault at Bagalpur village under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district.
The victims, Shantunu Sahu (23) and his uncle Ratnakar Behera (36), are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Shantunu returned to his village after taking his sister for medical treatment when the accused called him to a spot. As he reached, a group attacked him with sharp weapons. Ratnakar rushed to rescue his nephew but was also assaulted. Both managed to escape with the help of relatives and were shifted to the hospital in critical condition.
Locals informed Rambha police, prompting Inspector-in-Charge Kumar Muduli and his team to reach the spot. The attackers fled fearing police action. Police registered a case based on Shantunu’s complaint and launched a search for six accused persons.
Sources revealed that the attack stemmed from an old enmity dating back two years over a dispute. Investigators suspect the assault was planned as part of a revenge motive.
