Ganjam Police have arrested 18 criminals and seized 17 country-made firearms along with 66 rounds of live ammunition in a special drive conducted across multiple police jurisdictions.
The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Shubendu Kumar Patra, covered Asika, Sheragada, Kotinada, Bhanjanagar, and Polasara. Senior police officers, including SDPOs from various divisions, played a crucial role in executing the raid.
Officials suspect that the seized weapons may have their origins in Bihar. “All the arrested individuals are veteran criminals, and we are further verifying their antecedents,” stated Niti Sekhar, IG Southern Range.
The arrested suspects are undergoing interrogation, and forensic analysis is being conducted on the recovered arms and mobile devices. Authorities believe the operation may lead to uncovering larger organised criminal networks.
Local residents have praised the swift police action, expressing relief over enhanced security measures. SP Patra assured that such special operations would continue to prevent crime and maintain peace in the district.
