India’s G20-Sherpa and former CEO of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant, visited the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur, Odisha, marking a significant moment for the institute.
His visit was filled with insightful discussions on India’s economic transformation and the pivotal role of educational institutions in shaping the nation’s future.
Engaging with faculty members, students, and staff, Kant urged educators to mentor and guide the next generation of leaders, ensuring meaningful contributions to India’s development. He highlighted Sambalpur’s strategic importance in aluminium and power production, reinforcing its significant impact on India’s economic growth.
Admiring the sustainable and innovative campus design, Kant said, “IIM Sambalpur stands as a model for not just Odisha but for the entire nation. Its unique architecture and sustainability initiatives set a benchmark for academic institutions across the country.”
Addressing India’s economic aspirations, he emphasised the necessity of expanding India’s economy from $4 trillion to over $30 trillion, achieving the goal of “Viksit Bharat.” He noted that this transformation requires a 9% GDP growth, an 8% rise in per capita income, and a 16% boost in manufacturing—a mission in which institutions like IIM Sambalpur play a crucial role.
Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, expressed his gratitude for Kant’s visit. He remarked, “His words of encouragement and appreciation for our campus inspire us to strive for excellence. IIM Sambalpur remains committed to fostering a vibrant ecosystem of innovation, academic brilliance, and nation-building.”
The visit of Amitabh Kant reaffirms IIM Sambalpur’s position as a centre of learning, leadership, and economic thought, further propelling its contribution to India’s growth and global aspirations.
