In a move aimed at easing congestion and improving rail connectivity in Odisha’s capital, East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced that three major express trains will begin operations from the Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN) starting May 11, 2025.
This strategic shift involves the Konark Express (Mumbai route), Visakha Express (Secunderabad route), and the Inter City Express (Visakhapatnam route), all of which will now originate and terminate at the newer station. The decision is expected to benefit commuters in North Bhubaneswar, Athgarh, and Cuttack, while also decongesting the city’s main railway hub.
Revised Routes & Timings:
🔹 Konark Express (11019/11020)
-
Mumbai-bound (11019): Arrives at Bhubaneswar Main Station, departs 11:55 PM → Mancheswar (12:02 AM) → BBSN (12:20 AM).
-
Return trip (11020): Departs BBSN at 2:40 PM → Mancheswar → Main Station → Mumbai.
🔹 Visakha Express (17015/17016)

All trains will now halt briefly at Mancheswar and take a 20-minute pause at the Main Station, allowing easy transfers and adjustments for commuters. Passengers are urged to check updated schedules and boarding points to avoid any inconvenience.
The Bhubaneswar New Railway Station, active since 2018 under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, offers modern amenities, ample parking, spacious waiting areas, and commercial development potential. Future upgrades include new foot-over bridges and advanced infrastructure to accommodate growing traffic.
This change reflects Indian Railways’ push to modernize urban transit points and enhance passenger convenience through regional decongestion and smarter station management.
