The film industry has moved swiftly in response to the nationalistic wave following India’s powerful counterterror operation, Operation Sindoor, with over 30 producers rushing to register film and web series titles inspired by the military mission.
Among the high-profile names seeking title rights are John Abraham’s production house, Aditya Dhar, Mahaveer Jain, Madhur Bhandarkar, and major studios like Zee Studios, Reliance, JP Films, and Bombay Show Studio. Applications have poured into both the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) and the Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC), starting just hours after India confirmed its airstrikes on nine terror locations across Pakistan and PoK in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.
According to Suresh Amin of IFTPC, the body has already received 10-12 title applications such as Operation Sindoor, Sindoor Operation, Operation Sindoor Magnum, and The Pahalgam Terror. Meanwhile, IMPPA has confirmed it received 20–25 applications, mostly for Hindi films, with two regional projects in the mix.
Interestingly, Reliance Industries Limited is reportedly the first entity to file a trademark for Operation Sindoor under Class 41, covering entertainment and media.
Industry experts believe the rush mirrors earlier trends sparked by Uri: The Surgical Strike and Article 370. According to trade analyst Atul Mohan, filmmakers often seek early title registrations after major national events to ride the wave of public sentiment and secure market traction. “A timely title grabs eyeballs, but it’s the quality of storytelling that will eventually matter,” Mohan said.
IFTPC officials are now informally asking producers to stop sending further applications, while decisions on title allotments will depend on who filed first.
As patriotism floods screens and streets, Bollywood is now racing to translate Operation Sindoor into box office gold.
