A major accident was narrowly avoided on Wednesday morning when a BSCS freight train derailed near Bano station on the Rourkela–Ranchi railway line.
At approximately 10 a.m., the train, traveling from Bondamunda to Hatia, veered off the tracks between Bano and Kanarwan stations near kilometer marker 524/34 on joint line number two. Ten wagons derailed, and some overturned, bringing train movement on the route to a complete standstill.
Immediately after the incident, railway relief and rescue teams from Hatia and Bondamunda rushed to the site. Senior officials from the Ranchi railway division, along with engineering and operations personnel, joined them to assess the damage and coordinate recovery efforts.
As a result of the derailment, the Maurya Express—en route from Gorakhpur to Sambalpur—was halted near Kanarwan station. Fortunately, officials confirmed that no injuries occurred, averting a potentially serious disaster.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment. In the meantime, rail traffic between Rourkela and Ranchi remains suspended until the tracks are cleared and restored.
