Cuttack Police have uncovered a significant case of fraud involving an individual posing as a police inspector to deceive job aspirants.
The incident came to light after a complaint was filed at Badambadi Police Station, leading to the registration of case no. 127 of 2025.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Gundicha Dalai, approached a security guard working at CNBT, promising him a position as a Home Guard. Dalai, impersonating an Inspector of Police at the Rural S.P office, Cuttack, convinced the complainant of his legitimacy by showing a fake ID card and wearing a police uniform. He demanded a payment of ₹1,50,000 for the job confirmation and received an initial sum of ₹10,000. However, the complainant later realized the deceit and reported the matter.
Police swiftly acted on the complaint, apprehending Dalai and seizing a plethora of evidence, including a laptop, five mobile phones, fake identity cards, a police uniform, rubber stamps, chequebooks, and ₹4 lakh frozen in his bank accounts. Investigations continue to identify other victims and gather additional proof. The accused is set to be presented in court shortly.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police has issued a stern advisory urging job aspirants to remain cautious and refrain from engaging with fraudsters. They emphasized the transparent nature of government recruitment and urged the public to report any suspicious activities immediately.
