Odisha Vigilance secured the conviction of Kalu Charan Palleyi, former Grade‑A Lineman of the TPSODL Tikabali Electrical Section, Kandhamala district.
Palleyi, who was later posted at TPSODL Kotagarh, had been charge‑sheeted in Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 25 dated November 17, 2022 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He was accused of demanding and accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe from a shopkeeper in exchange for providing a new electricity connection.
On Friday, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, convicted Palleyi and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000.
Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will now move the competent authority to dismiss Palleyi from service following his conviction. Officials described the judgment as a strong message against corruption in public utilities.
