The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur, has convicted Sri Abanikanta Naik, a former Senior Assistant-Cum-Cashier of Sambalpur Municipality.
Naik, who had retired from service, faced charges under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the IPC.
He was found guilty of misappropriating government funds amounting to ₹4,00,010, which were collected on various dates from different Octroi check gates but were not deposited in the office as required. The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000.
Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced plans to approach the competent authority to stop Naik’s pension. This verdict underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and address corruption in public services.
