A para worker of the Forest Department under the Mathili range in Malkangiri district died following a suspected stroke, sparking allegations from family members that the incident occurred while he was on duty.
The deceased, identified as Gaurang Pujari of Kamalapadar village under Govindapalli panchayat, had been working regularly at Mathili Forest Range. On Friday morning, he joined duty as usual and returned home around 11 AM after completing his tasks. After lunch, he went out carrying an axe toward the forest. Shortly afterwards, villagers found him unconscious.
He was rushed to Mathili Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors referred him to Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital due to his critical condition. Despite efforts, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Mathili Forest Ranger Muralidhar Maharana confirmed the death, but family members alleged that the stroke occurred during his duty hours. Department officials, however, offered a different account.
Later, his body was brought back to Kamalapadar village. Forest staff joined villagers and family members in mourning, paying respects in a solemn atmosphere before the final rites.
