Panic spread in Tubey village of Angul district after more than 25 people fell ill following a wedding feast. Nearly 20 patients were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, while others received treatment at private facilities.
The feast took place on Wednesday evening under Jarapada police limits. Relatives, friends, and villagers gathered for the celebration, where traditional dishes were served. Hours later, guests reported diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain, and fever. Families rushed them to nearby hospitals as conditions worsened.
Health officials suspect food poisoning triggered by contaminated food or water. Preliminary findings point to this as the likely cause, but confirmation will come only after laboratory analysis.
Additional District Chief Medical Officer Dr Dillip Pattanaik stated that more than 15 patients are under treatment at the district hospital. He assured that most remain stable and under close medical observation.
A medical team will visit the wedding venue to collect leftover food and water samples. These will be tested to identify the source of contamination. Authorities have begun further investigation to prevent similar outbreaks.
The incident has raised concerns about food safety in community gatherings. Officials stressed vigilance and timely medical response to safeguard public health.
