Odisha may witness a significant weather disruption as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rainfall under the influence of a trough system.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra emphasised the potential for flood-like situations across multiple districts.
Today, northern Odisha is expected to experience intense rain, which will shift to western regions by tomorrow. Specific areas may receive up to 20 cm of rainfall, raising concerns over waterlogging and river overflow.
Rainfall is likely to impact major river basins, including the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, Mahanadi, and Brahmani. Coastal zones from Paradip to Sambalpur are also on alert for persistent downpour.
The IMD has issued a strong advisory for fishermen, warning of turbulent sea conditions and advising against venturing into deep waters. Inland areas may also experience winds reaching up to 30 km/h, further compounding the risk.
Local administrations and disaster management authorities are urged to remain on high alert and prepare for any emergencies triggered by extreme weather events.
