A severe flood situation has gripped Kendrapara district as the Kharasrota, Brahmani, and Kani rivers overflowed following heavy rainfall.
The rising water levels have inundated low-lying areas, leaving several villages submerged and thousands of residents stranded.
Connectivity has been completely disrupted in multiple blocks, including Rajnagar, Ali, and Pattamundai. Roads are under water, and locals are now relying on boats to move between villages. In the Rajnagar block alone, nearly 30 villages have been cut off from the outside world.
Ali block has reported extensive damage, with 12 panchayats affected by floodwaters. The Manpur-Gobindpur road is submerged under nearly 7 feet of water, making vehicular movement impossible.
Residents are in distress as floodwaters have entered homes, schools, and health centres. Agricultural lands have been submerged, raising concerns about crop loss and food security. The administration has initiated relief measures, including the distribution of dry food, the opening of shelters, and the deployment of rescue teams.
Authorities from the Water Resources Department and the district administration are on high alert. Efforts are underway to repair embankments and restore connectivity. Rescue operations are being supported by ODRAF, NDRF, and fire services.
As the situation remains tense, officials expect water levels to recede in the next 6–12 hours. However, concerns over waterborne diseases and clean drinking water persist.
