Puri witnessed a tragic road accident at Balgandi Chhak on Badadanda, leaving one minor dead and two others critically injured.
The incident occurred when a Bolero rammed into a scooter carrying a grandfather and two children.
The Bolero first hit a cyclist and then collided with the scooter, dragging it nearly 200 meters. The impact killed Shreyansh Dey, son of Niranjan De of Kumuti Sahi, while his grandfather Nilakantha Dey and another minor Raja Sahu sustained serious injuries. Doctors at Puri Hospital declared Shreyansh dead, creating a grief‑stricken atmosphere among relatives and locals.
Eyewitnesses reported that Nilakantha Dey was taking his grandson and another child to buy snacks when the Bolero caused the series of collisions. The injured victims were immediately rushed to Puri Hospital for treatment.
The accident triggered tension at the spot as locals surrounded the vehicle in anger. Police from Kumbharpada station reached the scene, pacified the crowd, and detained the Bolero driver. Allegations surfaced that the driver was under the influence of alcohol while driving.
Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the crash and the driver’s condition.
