In a decisive move against illegal arms possession, police in Odisha’s Angul district have seized five country-made guns and arrested five individuals during surprise raids across multiple villages under the jurisdiction of Khamar police station.
Acting on intelligence reports and previous allegations of locals hoarding illegal firearms, the police launched coordinated raids on Thursday night in Khanatapashi, Kurumula, Ranja, and Kuchinda villages.
The arrested individuals include Kamal Padhan (70), Arjun Tiria (35), Sukuru Penthoi (70), Umakanta Laguri (20), and Mitu Dehuri (35).
Khamar Police Station Officer Arun Kumar Panda confirmed that the arrests and seizures were conducted under the directive of the Angul Superintendent of Police. All accused have been forwarded to court.
This operation follows a similar crackdown in June, where three guns were seized and three individuals were arrested, along with the discovery of a country-made gun manufacturing unit.
