A fishing expedition turned into a tragedy in Odisha’s Balasore district as four fishermen from Kankadapal village, under Chaumukha panchayat, went missing on Saturday morning after venturing into the sea in a motorised boat.

The missing fishermen include boat owner Madhusudan Giri, his father Gopal Giri, brother Rabindra Giri, and brother-in-law Jagannath Pal.

While one fisherman was found alive under critical condition and is currently receiving treatment at Digha Hospital, the remaining three are yet to be traced. Search operations have intensified with five rescue teams from Chandipur, Kashafal, Balaramgadi, and West Bengal’s Digha deployed to locate the missing persons. Drone surveillance by Baliapal and Talsari Marine Police continues.

As over 24 hours have passed without success, the coastal community remains gripped in concern and anguish.
