In the wake of the tragic death of his daughter, Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student at KIIT University, Sunil Lamsal has expressed profound grief and a fervent hope that no other student endures a similar fate.
Prakriti, hailing from Nepal, was found deceased in her hostel room on February 16, 2025, an incident that has sparked widespread concern and calls for justice.
Mr. Lamsal emphasized the family’s trust in the ongoing investigation, stating, “My daughter is no more, but I hope no other student faces such a fate. We have full faith and confidence in the government and police administration here. We are hopeful that they will give us justice.” He also highlighted the broader implications of the incident, noting that while their daughter is no longer with them, numerous national and international students continue their studies at the university. He expressed a sincere wish that such a tragedy never recurs, underscoring the need for a safe and supportive environment for all students.
The incident has led to significant unrest among the student community, particularly those from Nepal. In response, KIIT University initially instructed Nepali students to vacate the campus but later reversed this decision. The university has since suspended two hostel officials and terminated two security staff members as part of its internal measures.
Authorities have arrested a fellow student, Advik Srivastava, in connection with Prakriti’s death. The investigation is ongoing, with both university officials and law enforcement agencies urging students to maintain peace and refrain from taking matters into their own hands.
This tragic event has also drawn attention from diplomatic channels, with the Nepalese government engaging in discussions to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation. The collective hope remains that justice will be served and that measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
