Torrential rains have wreaked havoc across Bastar division, leading to the tragic death of four family members whose car was swept away by strong currents while crossing a flooded culvert in Kanger Valley National Park.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, prompting a swift response from rescue teams including helicopters, boats, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel.
The victims—Rajesh Kumar G (43), his wife Pavithra (40), and their two minor children—were on an outing from Raipur when their vehicle was caught in the surging waters of Kanger Nala. Their driver, Lala Yadu, survived by clinging to a tree and was later rescued.
In addition to this tragedy, another man was reported missing after being swept away by the overflowing Cherpal stream in Bijapur district. Search operations are underway.
Over 68 residents have been evacuated from vulnerable areas in Bastar, Bijapur, and Dantewada districts. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as several villages remain cut off due to submerged roads and damaged infrastructure.
