Bhadrak: The Puruna Bazar area in Bhadrak here has become a hub for fake tobacco manufacturers. The police, however, are yet to nab the kingpin of such illegal trade.
A team of police recently raided a house located at Chhadak Mahal area of Puruna Bazar where manufacturing of fake tobacco was going on. Machinery for producing fake tobacco worth of several lakhs were seized from the house. But, the police could not arrest any person involved in the illegal operation. They fled the house before being caught, police sources said.
Police sources said the fraudsters use to label their packs containing fake chewing tobacco like branded ones to hoodwink people.Â
Nearly one hundred fake units have been seized in Bhadrak district in the recent past, but police are yet to nab any culprit. This points out to the unholy nexus between the police and the illegal operators, sources alleged.
