A former junior artisan in the electrical section of the Power House, Unit-VIII, Bhubaneswar, has been convicted and sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe to process a new electricity connection for a citizen’s house.
Chandrakanta Rout, who had already been terminated from service, was found guilty today by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to the prosecution case, Rout had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant in exchange for expediting the file for a new domestic electric connection. The Vigilance team laid a successful trap and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The case was investigated by Sri T. Patel, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division. Sri Salila Kumar Pradhan, Special Public Prosecutor, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution and secured the conviction.
Delivering the judgment on 7 July 2026, the Special Judge sentenced Rout to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year along with fine.
