Bhubaneswar police arrested a 67-year-old man on Sunday for attempting to rape an MBA student inside her hostel room in the Infovalley area.
The accused, identified as Dipak Pradhan, reportedly works as a shopkeeper in the locality.
According to the complaint, the student was inside her hostel room when Pradhan barged in and sexually assaulted her. He allegedly attempted rape before the survivor raised an alarm. Acting swiftly on the parents’ complaint, police launched an investigation and apprehended the accused while he tried to flee.
Investigating officers confirmed that Pradhan was taken into custody immediately. He will be remanded to judicial custody after interrogation and completion of legal procedures. Police have also initiated a probe into how the accused gained access to the hostel premises.
