Police recovered the body of 65-year-old Ram Bilas Gupta from a locked house in Barupada, Ward No. 13 of Rajgangpur Municipality.
Neighbours alerted authorities after failing to see him for several days.
Gupta lived alone in the house. He has four daughters and one son. His daughters are married, while his son works in Delhi and sends him monthly expenses. Earlier, Gupta lived with his youngest daughter, but disagreements led her to move elsewhere a few months ago.
On Wednesday, neighbours asked Gupta’s daughter about his whereabouts. When she said she had not visited him, they grew suspicious. They went to his house and found the door locked from the inside. Police broke open the door and discovered Gupta lying dead on his bed with a mobile phone in his hand.
Neighbours said they last saw him on Saturday. Police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem before handing it over to the family. Investigators are examining whether the death resulted from suicide or other causes.
