Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s latest romantic drama, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, has emerged as a surprise success at the box office.
Despite facing tough competition from Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, the film has managed to recover its entire budget within four days of release.
Box Office Performance
Released on Diwali, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat opened to strong numbers and continued to maintain momentum through the week. The film earned ₹22.75 crore net in India in its first three days.
On Friday (Day 4), it collected ₹5.5 crore, marking only an 8% dip from Thursday’s earnings — an impressive hold considering the post-festival slowdown.
This takes the film’s four-day domestic total to ₹28.25 crore net, surpassing its ₹25 crore production budget. The movie has therefore entered the profit zone in less than a week.
Trade analysts expect the romantic drama to show further growth over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), potentially cementing its status as a Diwali hit.
“The film’s steady trend and strong word-of-mouth have helped it defy expectations. Given its controlled costs and youth appeal, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is a winner,” said a trade source.
Clash With Thamma
The film’s success is particularly noteworthy given its clash with Maddock Films’ horror comedy Thamma, which features Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna.
Despite Thamma being mounted on a larger budget and enjoying a wider marketing campaign, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has managed to hold its ground — performing strongly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and showing impressive occupancy in evening and night shows.
About the Film
Directed by Milap Zaveri, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa in lead roles, with Shaad Randhawa, Sachin Khedekar, and Ananth Narayan Mahadevan in pivotal parts.
While the film has received mixed to negative reviews from critics, audiences have praised its music, emotional storyline, and on-screen chemistry between the leads.
However, some social media users have criticised the movie for alleged misogyny and the portrayal of toxic masculinity, sparking conversations about gender representation in modern Bollywood romances.
Despite the criticism, the film’s commercial performance suggests that it has resonated with its target audience.
Outlook
With positive word-of-mouth and strong weekend advance bookings, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is expected to maintain its upward trend. If it continues this pace, the film could easily cross the ₹40 crore mark in its first week, turning into one of the most profitable romantic dramas of 2025.
