In a sweeping move to enhance transparency and inclusivity in India’s electoral process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has conducted over 4,700 structured meetings with political parties across the country in the past six months.

This initiative, envisioned by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, marks a significant shift from reactive consultations to proactive engagement.

The meetings—held at multiple levels by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), District Electoral Officers (DEOs), and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)—have involved more than 28,000 representatives from recognized national and state parties. Notably, five of the six national parties, including the BJP, BSP, CPI(M), AAP, and NPP, participated in direct discussions with the Commission. The Indian National Congress deferred its meeting and did not respond to rescheduling efforts.

Between July and August 2025, the ECI extended its outreach to 17 recognised state parties, including the Trinamool Congress, DMK, Shiv Sena, BJD, and others. These interactions provided a platform for party leaders to voice concerns, offer suggestions, and engage with the Commission on electoral reforms and procedural clarity.

This initiative aligns with ECI’s broader vision of strengthening democratic institutions through structured dialogue, legal transparency, and stakeholder trust.
