The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in service for Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The extension of Dr. Samir V. Kamat’s service, effective from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, or until further notice, was announced on Monday.
This is Dr. Kamat’s second service extension. He was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D) and as the Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on August 25, 2022.
Since taking over the DRDO in August 2022, Dr. Kamat has been leading several critical defence projects, including the notable Kaveri engine program. His initial tenure was set to end on May 31, 2025, after having received an earlier extension in 2024.
