Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, urged faster technology transfer to upscale India’s industrial engagement.

He reviewed the scientific achievements and technological contributions of CSIR laboratories from Chennai and Hyderabad during a meeting in Tirupati.

Dr. Singh emphasised that stronger industry partnerships and quicker translation of laboratory research into societal and commercial applications are essential to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He noted that the Government of India continues to provide sustained impetus to strengthen the country’s scientific and innovation ecosystem.

During the review meeting, directors of CSIR laboratories presented their recent accomplishments and outlined future pathways for impactful research, innovation, and industry collaboration.

  • CSIR-CECRI (Karaikudi): Dr. K. Ramesha showcased indigenous work in sodium-ion batteries, metal recovery from spent batteries, green hydrogen production, and CO₂ capture.
  • CSIR-NGRI (Hyderabad): Dr. Prakash explained initiatives in geophysical insights into Ladakh, geothermal energy exploration, mapping of critical minerals, and Himalayan geo-hazard programmes.
  • CSIR-CLRI (Chennai): Dr. P. Thanikaivelan highlighted the indigenous ‘Bha’ footwear sizing system, advanced defence gloves, touch-sensitive gloves for the Air Force, and leather waste conversion technologies.
  • CSIR-SERC (Chennai): Dr. N. Anandavalli described work in offshore renewable energy infrastructure, disaster-resilient construction technologies, and bullet-proof security booths.
  • CSIR-CCMB (Hyderabad): Dr. Vinay Nandicoori presented achievements in genomics, diagnostics, and biotechnology for human, animal, and plant health.
  • CSIR-IICT (Hyderabad): Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy highlighted advances in pharmaceuticals, vaccine adjuvants, new-generation refrigerants, and translational research.

Appreciating the collective efforts of the CSIR laboratories, Dr. Singh stressed the importance of need-based research and science-driven innovation for national development. He called for stronger industry partnerships, accelerated technology transfer, and greater focus on societal applications of research.

Furthermore, he urged industries to acknowledge CSIR’s role in commercialising technologies. He reaffirmed that CSIR continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s scientific capabilities and supporting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
