The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) has officially denounced false allegations against its leadership, calling them an attempt to damage the festival’s reputation.
In the days leading up to the ceremony originally scheduled for February 20, 2025, at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, certain individuals allegedly attempted extortion by threatening to disrupt the event. When their demands were ignored, they reportedly initiated a smear campaign against DPIFF’s Managing Director, Mr. Anil Mishra, and CEO, Mr. Abhishek Mishra.
Safety concerns forced the organisers to postpone the prestigious event, but DPIFF remains steadfast in its mission to celebrate Indian cinema. Legal counsel has challenged the false claims, leading to judicial review and a formal clearance process at Bandra Police Station.
In a statement, Mr. Abhishek Mishra, CEO of DPIFF, reaffirmed the festival’s dedication to artistic excellence and expressed gratitude toward supporters who stood by them throughout the controversy. He emphasised that DPIFF will return stronger than ever, shining a global spotlight on India’s cinematic brilliance.
The festival has urged industry stakeholders and the public to avoid misleading narratives and focus on the celebration of film and creativity. As the legal process moves forward, DPIFF is gearing up for an even bigger, brighter festival, ensuring that the legacy of Indian cinema continues to be honoured and amplified worldwide.
