In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, a 22-year-old domestic helper, Rabi alias Saroj Behera, was arrested for allegedly raping a woman and her minor daughter multiple times.
The incident, reported under Badagada Police Station (Case No. 238/25), highlights a gross violation of trust within a household. The accused, hailing from Nipania village in Jajpur district, was employed at the victims’ residence in the Radhanagar area near Ravi Talkies Chhak. Exploiting his access, Behera allegedly used illicit photos and videos to blackmail the victims, threatening to make them viral, and subjected them to repeated sexual assaults.
According to the police, the accused worked as a domestic helper at the victims’ home, where he covertly recorded compromising photos and videos of the mother and her minor daughter. Using these materials, he coerced the victims into silence, threatening to share the content online. Over time, he allegedly raped both the mother and her daughter against their will, while also subjecting them to verbal abuse and threats. The accused escalated his intimidation by sending the illicit media to the complainant (the mother) and her husband, further instilling fear.
The case came to light when the woman lodged a complaint with the Badagada Police, detailing the horrific ordeal. Acting swiftly, the police registered a case and launched an investigation, leading to Behera’s arrest. During interrogation, the accused confessed to his crimes, and further inquiries revealed a prior case registered against him in Jajpur district, indicating a possible history of criminal behaviour.
The Commissionerate Police, led by DCP Jagmohan Meena, has applied for remand to deepen the investigation, aiming to uncover additional details and ensure justice for the victims.
The victims, residents of the Badagada area, are reportedly traumatised, and the incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of women and minors in domestic settings.
