The Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, today convicted Bhagirathi Sahoo, Former Senior Clerk-cum-In-Charge Head Clerk (Retired) of the Establishment Section, Office of the B.D.O., Gondia Block, Dhenkanal, in a bribery case registered by Odisha Vigilance.
The case, registered under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.10 dated 24.03.2018, was filed under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The charges pertained to demanding and accepting a bribe from a retired employee in exchange for processing pensionary benefit papers.
Following a detailed trial, the court sentenced Sri Sahoo to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a monetary fine. In light of the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced its intent to approach the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of his pension.
