Odisha Vigilance secured a major victory against corruption as the Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, sentenced former health staffer Bijay Kumar Prusty to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
Prusty worked as a Ward Attendant at Meramunduli Government Hospital under the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Dhenkanal. However, authorities had already dismissed him from service after discovering irregularities. Vigilance officials charged him under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 468, 471, 420, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.
Investigators revealed that Prusty submitted a forged Class-VII mark sheet to secure his appointment. Consequently, Odisha Vigilance filed a charge sheet after collecting strong evidence of forgery and cheating. The trial then proceeded before the Special Judge, who examined the case thoroughly.
On November 24, 2025, the court found Prusty guilty and pronounced the sentence. Moreover, the judgment highlighted the seriousness of corruption and fraudulent practices in public service appointments. Officials stressed that such convictions strengthen accountability and discourage malpractice within government institutions.
Furthermore, the case demonstrated Odisha Vigilance’s determination to curb corruption across departments. By pursuing charges against individuals who manipulate recruitment processes, Vigilance continues to protect the integrity of public service and ensure fairness in employment opportunities.
Ultimately, Prusty’s conviction reminded citizens that fraudulent acts not only cost individuals their jobs but also lead to criminal liability and imprisonment. Vigilance authorities reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and the rule of law, reinforcing Odisha’s fight against corruption.
