The decomposed body of a 70-year-old woman, Rangabati Pradhan, was recovered from the Tikira River on Friday morning.
Rangabati, the wife of the late Kunj Bihari Pradhan of Koradaposi village, had been reported missing four days earlier. Her family had filed a written complaint at the Kundheigola police station following her disappearance.
Local residents spotted a body floating near the riverbank early Friday and immediately informed the family. Upon confirmation, the family alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and retrieved the body. After conducting a post-mortem examination, the authorities handed over the remains to the family.
Police have registered an unnatural death case and initiated an investigation. While the exact cause of death remains unclear, preliminary assumptions suggest drowning. Officials stated that the post-mortem report will provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding her death.
