Dense fog severely disrupted normal life across Odisha’s twin cities — Bhubaneswar and Cuttack — on Tuesday morning, significantly affecting vehicular movement and reducing visibility on key roads and highways.
In Bhubaneswar, a thick blanket of fog enveloped the city from the early hours, creating near white-out conditions in several areas. Visibility dropped sharply along national highways and major arterial roads, prompting motorists to drive cautiously with headlights and fog lamps switched on.
Commuters faced delays during peak office hours as traffic slowed considerably. Residents described the morning scene as resembling a sheet of white smoke covering the capital city.
Traffic Slows in Cuttack
Similar conditions were reported in Cuttack, where dense fog disrupted daily routines and slowed down traffic across major roads. Motorists navigated carefully through mist-covered streets amid poor visibility.
Office-goers, school students, and daily commuters experienced inconvenience as the early morning fog impacted transportation and routine activities.
Puri’s Srimandir Shrouded in Mist
The impact of the fog extended to Puri, where the pilgrim town remained covered in thick mist. The iconic Shree Jagannath Temple was partially obscured, with visibility reportedly dropping to nearly 50 metres in certain areas.
Tourist footfall remained low during the morning hours, as fewer visitors ventured out to the sea beach and temple premises due to the foggy weather.
Cold Conditions Behind Intensified Fog
Weather experts attribute the dense fog to the recent surge in cold conditions across the region. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have experienced increasingly chilly and misty mornings over the past few days, contributing to intensified fog formation under prevailing atmospheric conditions.
Authorities have advised motorists, pedestrians, and commuters to remain cautious during early morning travel. Drivers are urged to use fog lights, maintain safe distances, and follow traffic guidelines to prevent accidents.
